Study Guide

Midterm II

Midterm II will be online, during class time. The midterm text will be available at 11:30am on ICON as a PDF file. You will download also a provided text file for you to write your answers in. You will have to upload the answer file to ICON (as a submission) by 12:30pm. Prof. Tinelli will be available online on Zoom (in the Zoom room used for lectures) during the exam in case you have problems with downloading/uploading the files or have questions.

The midterm will be designed to be done in 50 minutes and will focus on material from the March 2 lecture through the April 24 lecture, both included; specifically, it will focus the topics in Chapters 5,6, 7 and 9 of the textbook.

It will assume knowledge of all the required reading material listed in the Lectures section as well as posted solutions to homework assignments and the Midterm I. You can safely assume that there will be no questions on the material covered in these sections of the textbook: 5.1.4, 5.2.2-5.3, 6.4, 7.2.3, 7.3.2, and 9.1.4.

The exam will be open books and notes. Other than that concession, the usual cheating policy applies. In particular, you are not allowed to contact anybody during the test.

The exam will contain a mix of true/false, multiple choice, short answer questions, and problems similar to those in exercises, homework assignments and quizzes. The questions will be designed so that you can provide your answer in plain text (no drawing of diagrams and the like).

Midterm I

The midterm will cover material from the beginning of the semester up to, and including, the last class before it.

It will be closed books, notes, laptops and other electronic devices. However, you are allowed to bring up to 2 pages (one sheet front and back) of notes.

The exam will assume knowledge of all the required reading material listed in the Lectures section as well as solutions to homework assignments. However, you can safely assume that there will be no questions specific to the material covered in these sections of the textbook: 1.3-1.4, 3.3-3.4, 4.3.3.

It will contain a mix of true/false, multiple choice, short answer questions, and problems similar to those in exercises, homework assignments, and quizzes.
