Application Details

Summer 2025 applications are now open.

We review applications on a rolling basis. Submit by March 15 for consideration.

Application Process

You will need to complete ETAP Application Form.
  • On the application you will be requested to provide contact, demographic and education information as well as pick up projects you are interested in. Please refer to Projects to learn about available projects.
  • A 2-3 page personal statement of interest in our REU program. The statement should include what you hope to gain from the program and how this research experience will help you achieve your academic and career goals. Be sure that your name is clearly noticeable on each page of your statement and note that a competitive and complete statement will include a description of the following:
  • Your specific research interests (Clearly stated interests are crucial in determining an appropriate faculty match);
  • Details about any relevant research experience you have had in an academic or work setting;
  • Your goals beyond the baccalaureate degree; and
  • The qualities you possess that you think will contribute to your success in the program.
  • The names and email addresses of two people who will write a letter of recommendation for you. The portal will send a request directly to the letter writers to upload to the portal directly – you do not need to collect the letters yourself.
  • CV/Resume.
  • Unofficial transcripts.

This year’s application is accessible through the NSF Education and Training Application (ETAP) system. To apply, you will first need a research.gov account. If you have one, select "Sign In" to complete registration and apply for this opportunity. If you do not have a research.gov account, select "Create Account." For additional help, read the NSF ETAP step-by-step instructions or view the NSF ETAP how-to video.
