Parallel Algorithms, Data Mining, Bioinformatics, Scientific Computing

My research involves applied mathematics in Engineering, Genetics and Education, and the development of new algorithms and software for new methods in these areas. A few years after my PhD in numerical analysis, I started working in bioinformatics applications, such as multilevel clustering algorithms for protein-protein networks, and new optimization methods for matrix based clustering. From clustering I became interested in other Machine Learning topics such as classification and neural networks. I focus on problems with large amounts of data (Big Data) where new optimization or parallel algorithms is essential. I have taught classes in the area of Parallel Computing and Programming, Data Structures, Algorithms and Discrete Structures for CS students. A byproduct of my research and teaching in CS are the following books:
