Project - Midterm Presentations

The midterm presentation is a refinement of your project proposal. By now, you should have:

• A better handle on the technical approach to how to solve the technical challenges that you have identified
• A basic version of the system that implements basic capabilities. You should be able to demonstrate this as part of your report.

Logistics

• You should turn in your slides. The updated technical report should not exceed four pages.
• Each team will have 25 minutes
  • 20 minutes for presentation
  • 5 minutes for questions
• Each team member should turn in a peer view evaluating the participation of each team member in the project. Submit them via email.

Requirements

• Introduction [20 points]

  • Problem formulation - clearly define what you will do

• Approach [25 points]

  • Identify the major components of the system and the problems that you will have to solve
  • What are the challenges that you expect to encounter during the project?
  • What will be your approach to solving these problems?

  • How does your solution compare with other approaches?

  • Make sure to include:

  • a diagram of showing the components of the system and how they interact
  • what have you accomplished thus far, and what is left to be accomplished
  • Note, I expect a greater amount of detail than in the project proposal. I expect that here you will have most of the changes

• Related Work [15 points]

  • what other systems are related to your work
  • how did others overcome the challenges that you face
  • do their solutions apply to your case
  • if not, what novel ideals did you have to incorporate to make your system work
  • By now, you should have 2-3 papers that you read about your project.

• Experimentation [10 points]

  • Refer back to your experimentation plans and refine them
  • What aspects of your systems performance will you measure?
  • Note, it is okay to be tentative here.

• Demo [30 points]

  • A description of the demo
  • What capabilities of the system will be demonstrated.

  To turn in

  • Presentation due on 11/29 before midnight, one per team via ICON
  • Team effort evaluation due on 11/29 before midnight, all students must send one by EMAIL. The evaluation should include an assessment of your own performance and that of your team mates.
