About this course: An image of a concept in College Algebra

Algebra is a branch of mathematics dealing with manipulations of expressions or solutions of equations. It is the foundation of higher mathematics. Similar to most entry-level college math courses (e.g. college math and precalculus), this course is designed to provide the student with a better understanding of ideas of college algebra. We will start by reviewing some necessary topics that are used later in this course. We will also spend time on discussing many hands-on techniques and applicable tricks commonly used in college algebra. The course will end with a brief and short introduction to some higher mathematics, of course, related to algebra (e.g. linear algebra, number theory, and abstract algebra).

Objectives and Goals:

Students are expected to attend all lectures (synchronous), watch all recorded video lectures (asynchronous) and do all of the assignments regularly. Students are responsible for everything covered in the lectures. Students who complete this course with a passing grade are expected to be able to demonstrate the following:

Prerequisites:

Basic Algebra with a minimum grade of C- or ALEKS math placement score of 30 or higher

Technical Requirements:

An internet connection is necessary to participate in discussions and assignments, access readings, transfer course work, and receive instructor feedback. For web-based courses, students should have a basic working knowledge of computers and Internet use as well as access to a computer with a broadband (DSL, cable, satellite) Internet connection. Other requirements for each course are listed in the University catalog.
Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android or any other device with a modern web browser. Students who need assistive technologies will have different computer and technology requirements.
