INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCES IN NUMERICAL INTEGRATION

GENERAL INFORMATION

The main theme of the conference is numerical integration, in particular for ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, differential algebraic equations, optimal control problems, and any type of problems involving integration in one way or another.

The number of invited speakers is limited to about 25 with everyone given at most one hour for a talk including questions. There will be no parallel sessions.

Bulle is a city in the canton of Fribourg and is located in the beautiful Gruyère region, one of the most scenic and touristic part of Switzerland. The spoken language in the region is mainly french. There is a train station in Bulle with connections to major cities in Switzerland: Fribourg, Lausanne, Bern, Geneva, Basel, Zurich, etc. There are airports in Geneva, Zurich, and Basel, these airports are almost all equidistant from Bulle.

PROGRAM

Will be determined and available sometime in June. A priori the talks will be scheduled between 9am-12pm and 2pm-5pm (subject to change).

CONFERENCE FEE

The fee of 230 USD or 200 EUROS includes the conference dinner on Tuesday evening and an excursion on Wednesday late morning and afternoon, see below.

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

Monique Chyba has suggested the possibility to have conference proceedings as a special volume in the book series Applied Mathematics of the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Monique is the Editor in Chief of this book series. More details will be given during the conference depending on the interest of participants.

CONFERENCE DINNER ON TUESDAY EVENING JULY 7

The Conference dinner will be held on Tuesday July 7 at 7pm at the restaurant Le Gruyérien (Grand-Rue 1, Bulle).

Customize your own menu (Appetizer + Main + Dessert): Additional guest: 60 USD or 55 EUR.

Email me your choice (as a simple 3 digits number) before June 30th, for example: 212 = Mixed salad...+ Cheese fondue...+ Panna cotta... If I do not hear from you, the choice will be 111.

EXCURSION ON WEDNESDAY JULY 8

An excursion from Bulle to the medieval city of Gruyères will be available by taking the train at 11:20am (or 11:50am?) from Bulle to the Gruyères train station with a visit to a Gruyère cheese factory (check the cheese making timetable). Then free lunch time in Gruyères. Then after lunch a visit to the castle of Gruyères.

For those who like hiking there is a bus from the Gruyères train station to the Moléson village (11 minutes) where you can take a funicular to Plan-Francey which is the starting point of many trails and of the cable car to the top of the Moléson mountain.

From Espace Gruyères it is a 15 minutes walk to the Bulle train station. On Wednesday July 8 there are trains at 10:50am, 11:20am, 11:50am, 12:20pm, 12:44pm from the Bulle train station to the Gruyères train station (it takes 8 minutes).

In the medieval city of Gruyères (near the castle)

Expect at least a 40 minutes commute time by foot and train between the medieval city of Gruyères and Espace Gruyère in Bulle: First it is a 15 minutes walk from the medieval city of Gruyères to the train station in Gruyères, then a 7-8 minutes train ride between Gruyères and Bulle train stations, then a 13 minutes walk from the Bulle train station to the Espace Gruyère in Bulle. On Monday July 6 there are trains at 07:07am, 07:32am, 07:38am, 07:58am, 08:32am from the Gruyères train station to the Bulle train station.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE BULLE AREA

On Monday July 6 there are trains at 07:07am, 07:32am, 07:38am, 07:58am, 08:32am, etc., from the train station in Gruyères to Bulle (type the 0 in front!).

TOURISTIC INFORMATION

The Tourist Office La Gruyère Tourisme is located in Bulle near the train station.

Wednesday afternoon July 8 and Friday afternoon July 10 will be free time to enjoy some touristic activities. There are many places to visit in the Gruyère region, to name a few The local newspaper: La Gruyère.
