Required for: Statistics M.S. students who were "not proficient" on the computing placement exam Recommended for: Statistics M.S. students who were "borderline" on the computing placement exam Students who are not Statistics M.S. students and who do not have previous coursework in programming This supplementary homework is intended to help students build proficiency in basic programming skills and concepts. It can be spread out over the first 8 weeks of the semester. I have put a book called "First Course in Statistical Programming with R" in the library on course reserve for STAT:5400. It should be available by or before the second week of classes. Read Chapter 4 of that book. (You probably will need to read Chapter 2 first, or wait until we have started covering R in class.) Do all of the Chapter Exercises at the end of Chapter 4 and submit your code and output as a text file in the ICON dropbox for Supplementary Homework by October 20. You should also do some of the exercises at the end of each section of the chapter, but you don't need to submit those.
