Weds Lect:  Linear Functions of two variables, rates of change, equations of planes

Due  Thursday Sept 16:  Sect 3.1 Ex  2, 3, 5, 6, 8.
Exercise A:  Find the equation of the plane with gradient and containing the point (1,2, -5).  Find a vector perpendicular to this plane.

Thu Disc  Practice with rates of change of linear functions (directional derivatives).

Fri Lect: Local Linear Approximation, Partial and Total Differentiation.  Review of the idea of linear approximation of curves and surfaces.  The rate of change of a linear function of two variables.

Due Thursday Sept 16:  Sect 3.3 Ex 1 (a-d) , 2, 3(a,  b)
