About Flannery Currin

I am a PhD candidate in the Computer Science department at the University of Iowa, focused on Human-Computer Interaction. I have a B.A. in Computer Science and Psychology from Earlham College.

I am advised by Prof. Juan Pablo Hourcadeand am currently working on the StoryCarnival project, which seeks to iteratively develop and evaluate the effectiveness of technology supports for children's development of executive function skills through sociodramatic play. I am interested in developing accessible and socially responsible technologies with and for young children and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

I am a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and former president of the University of Iowa's Women in Computing Sciences organization. I am passionate about creating a culture in which computing literacy and technical skills are broadly accessible, both within and beyond academia. I was a 2021-2022 trainee in the Iowa Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities Program (ILEND).
