We describe the construction of a topological quantum field theory with corners for 3-manifolds, using quantum deformations of $sl(2,C)$. We show the connection between our theory and the Jones polynomial and give an explanation from our point of view of the Reshetikhin-Turaev formula for 3-manifold invariants.
