The spectral flow on a closed 3-manifold is an invariant associated to paths of Dirac operators. To define spectral flow on a manifold with boundary one must impose boundary conditions. I will discuss a formula which relates the spectral flow on a closed partitioned manifold to the spectral flow on each piece.
