To use the latest version of MathReader
Go to the MathReader
site.
To use the version of MathReader on the CD
Select the platform you need.
- MathReader for Windows 95/NT
Follow these steps.
- To install MathReader 3.0 on your system, do one one of the
following:
- Click on the Start button, then the Run...
button, and then the Browse... button. The file to run is
estroyan/SETUPEX.EXE on the CD.
- Click on the file setupex.exe and
store on your hard drive. Then double-click on this file.
- Note that if you already have Mathematica installed, you do
not need to install MathReader 3.0 to view Mathematica
notebook files. If you still want to install MathReader, you
should note that file associations will change on your system so that
files with the extension ".nb" will be opened by MathReader 3.0
when you double-click them. To change the association back to
Mathematica, run the Mathematica installer again. If you
uninstall MathReader 3.0 and experience problems with fonts in
Mathematica 3.0, reinstall the Mathematica fonts by
running the Mathematica 3.0 installer.
- Optional: Configure your browser to automatically launch
MathReader when you retrieve a Mathematica
notebook.
- Select
Preferences
from the Options
menu.
- Select
Helper Applications
from the bar at the top of
the window you just opened.
- Click the
New
button inside the window.
- Enter application as the MIME type, and mathematica
as the MIME sub-type. Press return.
- Enter .nb in the
Extensions
box.
- Under the
Action
menu, select Launch
Application
.
- Click the
Browse
button, then select the
MathReader application you just downloaded.

save everything you've done to the Netscape configuration
file.
- MathReader for Macintosh
- To install MathReader 3.0 on your system, download either
MathReader.68k
or
MathReader.PPC
(for the Power Macintosh native version). If you are not sure, or
want a single version that will run on both Macintosh and Power
Macintosh computers, choose MathReader.68k.
- Verify that this file was un-BinHexed correctly. You can use
Stuffit Expander to un-BinHex the file manually.
- Double-click the resulting installer application to install
MathReader 3.0 on your computer.
- If you experience problems with fonts when printing or pasting into
other applications, you should install the Mathematica fonts into
your machine's Fonts folder. Drag the font suitcase found at
"Mathematica 3.0 Files:SystemFiles:Fonts:Macintosh:MathFonts" into your
"Disk:System Folder:Fonts:" folder.
- Optional: Configure your browser to automatically launch
MathReader when you retrieve a Mathematica
notebook. (The following instructions are not yet in synch with
3.0--for example, it uses .ma as the file extension for notebooks,
not .nb as it should.)
- Select
Preferences
from the Options
menu.
- Select
Helper Applications
from the bar at the top of
the window you just opened.
- Click the
New
button inside the window.
- Enter application as the MIME type, and mathematica
