Speaker:   Professor Stephen M. Stigler,  Department of Statistics, University of Chicago

Title:   "Darwin and Galton: The Origin of Modern Bayesian Inference"

Abstract: A surprising new discovery suggests that the emergence of a true Bayesian inference in the 20th century can be traced to Darwin's

1859 "Origin of Species".  The link is revealed, and the case will be made for an additional "First (?) Occurrence" for Herbert A. David's collection.

Dinner:  

6:00pm,   Olde Main Brewing Company, 316 Main Street, downtown Ames  (map).  

We will be ordering individually from the menu, and the cost will range from $10 (sandwiches) to $20 (steak) per person.  Because an approximate head count is necessary, we ask that you make a reservation by emailing
