Title:  Statistics Projects at Hy-Vee

Eric Smith,  Vice President of Management Information Systems for Hy-Vee.

Abstract: For a number of years, Hy-Vee has been developing and implementing forecasting for such projects as movement of items out of their warehouses and retail locations and forecasting commodity markets. Over the last two years we have engaged ISU. We contract two PhD students and one professor. In this presentation, you will hear from members of the research team about their work on projects that include analyzing inventory levels at retail, providing better ad forecasting for Hy-Vee's Computer Assisted Reordering System, analyzing the size of wine and spirits stores, deciding on the best town or street to build the next store, and more.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Dinner  

6:30pm,  Dinner at Tavern II Pizza and Pasta Grill  (see http://www.tavernpizza.com/tav2_1.asp).    We have reserved a banquet room, where there will be a salad/pasta/pizza buffet.  Because a head count is necessary,   you  must make a reservation by emailing Joe Lang at  joseph-lang@uiowa.edu  by Wednesday, March 26, 2008.  Joe asks that you include the phrase "Dinner Reservation" in the subject line of your email reservations. In your message, please include (1) your name and (2) the number having dinner.

The cost for the dinner will be $10.00 for students and $13.50 for non-students.
