You can earn points towards your participation grade by asking questions, pointing out errors, making insightful comments in class, e-mailing suggestions (for example links to helpful websites including short description), actively participate in office hours, etc..

To earn your participation grade, e-mail a short description of the contribution to with subject: 22M:33 participation grade. E-mails should be sent about 1 – 2 times per month or per semester.

Your e-mails should be cumulative so that at the end of the semester we have one e-mail containing all your class contributions. In other words reply to the last one that you sent. Including some details in your email (such as what question, comment, error did you point out) would be helpful, especially if you would like a letter of recommendation. However, the e-mails can be informal and should be quickly written. Do not spend much time on them.

The main purpose for these e-mails is in case you need a letter of recommendation from me. I can use these e-mails to write a personalized letter including specifics that will boost the usefulness of the letter. The alternative is a generic letter that won’t count for much.
